SRINAGAR, Sept 8: One person has died and another wounded after suspected militants fired at them in Sopore town of Baramulla in northern Kashmir, police say.
They say Riyaz-ul-Hasan died on spot while his companion Tariq Ahmed was hit in the shoulder after they came under bullet fire at Brath Kalaan village in Sopore, known as the hub of separatist sentiment in the valley.
Sources say Hasan was a Special Police Officer (SPO) and Ahmed a soldier of the territorial army.
A police statement said soon after the incident people of Brath Kalan came out and staged massive protest against the militants for the killing.
More details, however, are awaited.
Meanwhile police say they have launched a manhunt for the militants.
