SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government and the Centre today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in tripartite for implementation of scheme ‘ Revival, Reform and Reconstructing’ (RRR) in the field of Handloom sector.
The signing of MoU took place between the concerned State and Central Government officers in presence of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Union Minister of Textiles Kavuru Sambashiva Rao here.
The Chief Minister and the Union Minister expressed hope that the scheme aimed at providing package to the weavers in handloom sector and helping ameliorate their lot besides giving a new dimension to the development of the sector, will prove highly successful and beneficial to the state.
Mr Abdullah underscored the need for focusing on holistic and comprehensive development of handicrafts and handlooms to attract youngsters and budding entrepreneurs to venture in these fields in the State.
“We have to make these sectors economically as sound as would attract the youth to get associated in the activities in these sectors,” he said and mentioned the tremendous potential and reputation of handicrafts and handloom items of the State, internationally.
Matters relating to the comprehensive development of handicrafts, handlooms and artisans associated in these economically high important sectors also came up for discussion.
Present on the occasion were Union Development Commissioner Handlooms, State Commissioner Secretary Industries, Director Handlooms, Director Handicrafts, Managing Director Handloom Development Corporation, CGM NABARD and other officers.
