SRINAGAR, July 5: Fuel supply to Kashmir has resumed Thursday morning as the Oil Tankers’ Association called-off their strike after authorities reportedly agreed to their demands.
Traffic was affected in Kashmir due to scarcity of petrol and diesel as drivers, who bring fuel from winter capital Jammu in large tankers, went on a strike Tuesday. They were protesting after the throat-slit body of their colleague, driver Akshay Kumar, was found buried in South Kashmir’s Qazigund area on June 30.
Hundreds of Kumar’s colleagues skipped work to demand compensation for his family and also a government job for his spouse.
“The government has assured us about the compensation of one lakh rupees for his family and they have also promised to give his wife a job,” Ranjit Singh Raina, president of the association, said.
“We will now start our work and resume supplies from early morning,” he said Wednesday evening.
