SRINAGAR: Police in Kashmir have found the body of a Border Security Force soldier who had drowned in a river nearly nine months ago.
Krishan Anand Tiwari, a head constable in the BSF, was found on the banks of river Kishan Ganga near Wanpora Bridge in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
He had drowned on August 21 last year during a flood in Barroie village Bridge Camp near the Line of Control with Pakistan.
Assistant Sub Inspector of Police Station Gurez, , Mr Haidar told Freepress that the BSF man’s body was decomposed beyond recognition.
He said Tiwari’s colleagues could identify him only with his Kada (metal wrist band) and a watch.
“His body has been sent to Srinagar for post mortem,” Haidar said.
Meanwhile four people including a father-son duo have drowned at separate places across Kashmir valley, police say.
A police spokesman says three people of village Dachi in north Kashmir’s Baramulla disrict drowned as they were fishing in the Jhelum on Saturday.
The body of one of them, Aftab Badana, 30, has been recovered from the river by a search party of the police.
Hafizullah Badana, 55, and his teenage son, Nayeem Badana are still untraced.
In south Kashmir’s Awantipora, an 8-year-old boy Asif Ahmad Gujjar slipped into a rivulet and drowned.
He was a student of second standard. His body has been recovered.
