SRINAGAR, Sept 23: Jammu and Kashmir is set to host the national white water slalom kayaking and canoeing championship on river Sindh at picturesque Sonmarag.
‘Slalom’ means moving in a zig-zag fashion against obstacles.
Organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Kayaking and Canoeing Association and sponsored by J&K tourism department alongwith J&K State Sports Council, the championship will be held for five days from September 26.
Paddlers from different States of the country and affiliated units of Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association will participate in the championship.
“The championship will see two individual (K1 and C1) teams and two team events (3xK1 and 3xC1) and a slalom course is being prepared at Sonmarag,” an official spokesperson said.
Minister for Sports R.S Chib is scheduled to inaugurate the championship.
