SRINAGAR: Mobile internet services have resumed on Thursday, five days after they were barred following communal violence in Kishtwar district of the state.
Three people were killed and scores others injured in violence between Hindus and Muslims on Friday last in Kishtwar, where an indefinite curfew is still in force.
Kashmir valley remained largely peaceful, but the authorities snapped cellular internet connectivity as a precautionary measure. Only the government-owned BSNL broadband service was working.
The internet blockade caused great difficulties to students, media persons and businessmen alike.
This was the fourth time this year that authorities blocked mobile internet.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah justifies the blockade on mobile internet services as “necessary”.
“Main reason to restrict the mobile services is they are the only source to spread rumours,” he had said the last time internet services were barred.
