SRINAGAR: The army says it has killed a militant who was trying to cross the Line of Control that divides Kashmir between India and Pakistan.
This is the first such clash since January when a string of killings gave rise to alarming tensions between the two countries.
The fresh incident happened in mountainous Rajouri district when the army say they challenged a group of militants who were trying to infiltrate from across the LoC.
“One militant was killed in the exchange of fire while one army soldier was injured,” said an army spokesperson.
One soldier has also been wounded in the clash.
“Troops are carrying out extensive searches in the area for any militant having possibly sneaked into the Indian side,” the spokesperson added.
