SRINAGAR, July 17: A thirteen-year-old mentally challenged girl was raped by a 25-year-old man in south Kashmir, the third such incident in past three weeks in a Muslim-majority region where crime against women are reported rarely.
Police said the heinous crime took place at Batmuran village of Shopian distrcit in South Kashmir last week, but was not reported till July 14 as the victim, a mentally challenged girlm could not convey it to her mother.
“After two days the girl’s father, who was out of home for personal work, arrived and he understood what his daughter was trying to say,” said a police official.
“The father immediately contacted the police.”
The girl was sent for a medical examination where a rape was confirmed by doctors, the officer said.

The accused is a neighbour of the girl and is a contractor by profession.
Last week a teenaged girl was allegedly gangraped in North Kashmir by a group of youth while returning after taking an examination while on July 1, a five-year-old girl was raped by a 15-year-old boy in central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
