Mehbooba Says Kashmir Is Like A Colony of India

“We have to decide whether we will behave like a ‘colony’ or should we work for the people here.”

SRINAGAR: The main opposition party of the state seems to have cornered the govt over the issue of killings of civilians in the state.
“We have to decide whether we will behave like a ‘colony’ or should we work for the people here,” said the opposition leader and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti.

The party had moved an adjournment motion on the issue of recent killings including those of Shopian in September and the Gool incident. The party targeted the state for inaction against the forces.

“The first thing that any govt should do that is register an FIR, but even that took time in Shopian”, said Mehbooba Mufti. To this the National Conference MLA Nasir Aslam Wani reacted saying, “FIR in the case was registered against CRPF and a receipt was given to them.”

The opposition members demanded that the govt should take note of the excesses made by the security forces.

“It is a matter of accountability, if under the pressure of the BJP and others in New Delhi the govt made a minister resign for Kishtwar violence why can’t the same accountability be displayed in the cases like Gool incident and 2010 killings of youth in the state”, said Mehbooba Mufti in her statement.

Reacting to the statements made by the opposition parties the members of the ruling party responded by calling it a political gimmick. “These are important issues, however the problem with opposition is that they use these issues for political mileage”, said the legislator of the ruling NC Aga Ruhullah.
