URI: They come in the dead of the night and bang doors; They throw stones at tin roofs of the houses and create noise.
Mysterious persons have spread fear in many villages in Uri, a border town in north Kashmir, residents say.
This has been happening for the past two weeks in villages like Garkote, Nambla, Mothal, Hathlanga, Silikote, Syedpora, Churunda, Laguma and Bandi.
Many a time, scared villagers even fired their “licensed” guns to scare these men away. “But we have failed to catch hold of them,” said a local resident.
The villagers say they do know who these people are as they always come wearing masks.
A journalist in the area told FreePress some villages, where all this has been happening, are less than 5 km away from the Line of Control – a heavily militarised line dividing Kashmir between India and Pakistan.
Now, they have filed a complaint with the local police. Station House Officer of the Uri Police station, Mohammed Abdullah said they have sent out night patrols to hunt down these “masked men who are terrorising people.”
“But still we have no any clue,” he said.
