SRINAGAR: At least 50 vehicles were damaged by unknown persons in Pinglena area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday night.
A local news agency, CNS, reports that “some masked men” appeared in the area late on Monday night and smashed vehicles at random.
One driver, Reyaz Ahmed, said these masked men were seen stopping “every vehicle that was coming from Pulwama to Srinagar and vice versa.”
“Drivers were stopped and dragged out from their vehicles and thrashed mercilessly. These men were armed with lathis and iron rods. My vehicle was damaged completely and I was beaten to pulp,” he said.
Another driver said that even truck drivers were not spared by these men and their trucks were damaged as well.
“Most of us are non locals. Some drivers turned their vehicles back to save themselves from the wrath of these unidentified men,” he said.
Police have denied that the incident happened.
The Station House Officer, Pulwama, Sabzar Ahmed said: “Pulwama is a safe area and no such incident occurred in the district. Someone might have spread this false rumour and there is not an iota of truth in it.”
