SRINAGAR: Supporters of a ruling National Conference leader, Mohammad Akbar Lone have staged a protest against the main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in response to a similar protest against him yesterday.
Lone is the NC MLA from the Sonawari constituency of Bandipora district in north Kashmir.
During a meeting of the District Development Board Bandipora on Tuesday he had a heated argument with PDP legislators. Leaders of both the parties used “unparliamentary” language against each other during the meeting.
Yesterday a PDP leader from the same area, Yesir Reshi led a group of his supporters at the Press Colony in Srinagar and demanded Lone’s removal from the cabinet.
“Irked”, more than a hundred of Lone’s supporters gathered at the same venue today and shouted slogans against the PDP and its patron Mufti Mohammed Sayeed.
“Sonawari Soun Kari, Lone Kari Lone Kari (Lone will turn Sonawari into Gold),” they chanted and clapped in rhtyhm.
A protester, Abdul Majeed said “even if there was some fight at the meeting, the issue should have been resolved and the PDP workers should not have staged a protest demonstration against Lone”.
“We want to tell the people that Akbar Sahab is our real leader. The PDP is doing all this in frenzy. They are jealous of him.”
The protesters accused the PDP of sabotaging development in the Sonawari constituency.
They later dispersed off peacefully.
