SRINAGAR: Life returned to normal in the summer capital, Srinagar and other major towns in the Kashmir valley after a two-day general strike against the killing of five people in CRPF firing on September 7 and 11.
However, curfew restrictions continued in Shopian as a precautionary measure.
Shops and business establishments reopened in the city and traffic was plying on all routes.
However, due to non-functional traffic lights, particularly at very busy Rambagh on Srinagar-Airport road, hundreds of vehicles got stranded.
The shutdown was called by octogenarian separatist leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who said it will “convey a message to end the forced occupation in Kashmir.”
“The strike will also convey a message to the world that our struggle will continue as along as the last Indian soldiers lasts here.”
