SRINAGAR: Life has returned to normal in Kashmir, nine days after Muhammad Afzal Guru was hanged at the Delhi’s Tihar jail.
Shops and business establishments reopened in Srinagar and other major towns of the valley and traffic plied normally.
There were however clashes between protesters and the police and paramilitaries since morning in Pulwama town, where restrictions have been imposed.
Yesterday evening also, residents say, more than a hundred angry youth marched towards the local police station in Pulwama town, but there was no major violence.
Life in the valley was on a standstill after Guru, convicted for plotting the 2001 attack on the Indian parliament, was hanged and buried at the Tihar jail on Feb 9.
Authorities imposed a curfew which continued until Friday evening.
Three youth boys died and scores were wounded during clashes with the police and paramilitaries eversince.
However, senior separatist leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani extended his strike call and asked people to observe a shutdown till Sunday to demand the return of Guru’s body.
