SRINAGAR: A spontaneous shutdown is in its third day in Shopian town in south Kashmir against the arrest of two youths last week.
Business and other activities remained shut and traffic was off the road in the town and adjoining areas on Tuesday though there was no strike call from any organisation.
Work in government offices, banks and educational institutions was also affected due to the strike.
The youth were arrested during the intervening night of March 29 and 30.
Police alleged that the two would organise stone pelting in the town.
They said one of them, Zubair was arrested several times in the past and released after warning. However, he continued to indulge in stone pelting and inciting others also, they said.
Meanwhile several people, including security personnel, were injured in clashes in the town.
