SRINAGAR: Life remained crippled for the second day today in Baramulla in north Kashmir, where people are protesting against the arrest of some shopkeepers on charges of stone pelting.
Shops and business establishments remained closed as Beopar Mandal demanding immediate release of shopkeepers.
The mandal alleged that security forces and police personnel have arrested a number of shopkeepers on false charges of participating in stone pelting in the town last week.
Shopkeepers in the town staged a dharna on main roads, threatening to intensify agitation if the arrested shopkeepers were not released immediately.
Transport was also off the road. Very less number of private vehicles were plying in the downtown.
However, traffic on national highway was plying normally as large number of security forces remained deployed on both sides of the road to prevent any stone pelting. Work in government offices and banks was also affected due to strike.
Educational institutions were also affected due to strike. Elsewhere in the north Kashmir, the situation was normal.
