Leave Confrontational Approach, Address Demands of Employees: CPI(M)

SRINAGAR: Expressing concern over confrontational approach adopted by the state government, the Communist Party of India(M) today said the government must fulfill the long pending genuine demands of employees without any further delay.

In a statement here, state secretary of the CPI(M) Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said it is unfortunate that instead of persuading the protesting employees, the government has resorted to ultimatums like an authoritarian regime.

‘In our state it is unfortunate that confrontation and the use of force seem to be the only options available with the government to deal with the protesting employees.

This tactic, he said, needs to be changed in the better interests of government as well as the people.

The CPI (M) leader observed that striving for genuine demands is the basic and fundamental right of the citizens under the constitution and serving ultimatums of service breaks, terminations or dismissals is contrary to the spirit of democracy.

‘The peaceful agitation is the legitimate right of working class and Constitution of India provides this security thus government should desist from manipulating employees to go for edgy compromises,’ he remarked.

Mr Targami said the coalition government should exhibit seriousness as far as employees and workers are concerned and implement in letter and spirit the agreements reached between Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) with the cabinet subcommittee.

‘The demands including removal of pay anomalies besides regularisation of daily wagers, casual labourers and contractual staff who have completed seven years of service should be met as per the agreement,’ he said.
