SRINAGAR, July 27: Police have arrested man who they say belongs to the Lashkar-e-Toiba militant group.
Mohammad Mohsin Thoker alias Abu Hamza was arrested in Wahipora village in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district after police received a tip-off about his presence in the area.
“During the joint operation Srinagar police, 182 Bn. CRPF and 55 Rashtriya Rifles cordoned the house of Ajaz Ahmad Najar of Wahipora Pulwama and apprehended a Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) militant Mohammad Mohsin Thoker,” a police spokesperson said.
Police say they recovered from Najar a mobile phone with a sim card, one memory card, 12 letter pads of Lashker-e-Toiba besides an LeT stamp. were recovered from his possession.
Najar is a resident of the nearby Auynura village.
An armed conflict began in Kashmir two decades ago and tens of thousands of people were killed due to violence involving security forces and militants. But now authorities claim that armed separatism was at its lowest ebb ever since its started.
The region is witnessing a booming tourist season this year. However, security agencies are concerned about militant groups trying to regroup by hiring mostly local youth.
