SRINAGAR: In a significant development, Vice chancellor Kashmir University, Prof Talat Ahmad, relieved a Deputy Registrar from key positions like General Administration and attached him to the Examination Block as Deputy Controller.
Sources told a local news agency, CNS, that University authorities had constituted an inquiry committee against Mohammed Yusuf Bhat after allegations of illegal appointments against him.
Bhat had allegedly taken undue advantage of his political influence and appointed more than twenty persons from his home district, Ganderbal. The “illegal appointees” include his brother, brother in law and his cousins.
A senior Professor told CNS that the development is significant “because the said official is having close contacts with top bureaucrats and politicians of the State.”
Another official said that VC took this decision as the inquiry committe had indicted Bhat.
A professor, wishing anonymity, told CNS that Bhat had made these appointments illegally during the tenure of the former VC and Registrar.
“This illegal appointment scam reached Raj Bhavan and Governor, who is also the Chancellor of the University. He took serious note of this complaint and directed VC for investigation,” he said.
When contacted, VC, Kashmir University, Prof Talat Ahmed said: “I can’t tell you anything about this issue. It was a routine reshuffle.”
