SRINAGAR: The Kashmiri Pandit Sangarsh Samiti (KPSS) has expressed concern over destroying of a shrine in mysterious fire incident in the frontier district of Kupwara early this morning.
In a statement here this afternoon KPSS president Sanjay Kumar Tickoo expressed pain and resentment over the damage caused to the Sadhu Ganga Asthapan in a fire incident in Kandi Khas, at Kupwara.
He alleged that the revered Asthapan, constructed by State Tourism Department, was reduced to ashes during the intervening night of September 17 and 18.
Mr Tickoo further alleged that it was a deliberate attempt to damage and destroy the history and culture of pandits in the Kashmir valley.
He said on the one hand government is making promises to extend all help for the return of Kashmiri pandits back to valley, but on the ground the situation is entirely different.
He said recent incidents has shaken the confidence of the members of Pandit community and Kupwara incident was a setback not only to the Pandit Community, but other minorities living in the Valley.
Without naming separatists, he said leaders in the valley have failed to facilitate the return of peace.
The KPSS president said we do not want any sort of lip sympathy from the leaders of masses but concrete results on the ground where they have to ensure that such incidents do not take place and the nefarious designs behind all these are exposed.
President, Kashmir Minority Forum Satinder Singh has also condemned the Kupwara incident and the harassment of minorities at difference places in Valley including Shopian.
He appealed to the quarters concerned to probe these incidences and to expose those who wanted to malign the image of a common Kashmiri.
