SRINAGAR: Lawyers in Kashmir valley have decided to boycott work on Monday to protest over the clashes between Muslims and Hindus in Kishtwar.
Two people, Arvind Kumar and Bashir Ahmed, have been killed and dozens others injured.
The JK High Court Bar Association Srinagar said it condemned the incident.
It blamed the Village Defence Committees for the deaths and “without fear of contradiction” holds the state government responsible.
“The Govt. of J&K should have taken an action by disarming the village Defense Committee, when a request was made by the people of Kishtwar. Instead of doing so the Govt. of Jammu and Kashmir gave latitude to this committee,” the Bar said, according to a local news agency KNS.
“The protest on Friday by the Muslims was genuine and was peaceful, they did not had any firearm with them, it was the village defense committee who were armed by the Govt. and who used the same.”
