SRINAGAR: President of the Awami Ittihaad Party (AIP) and member of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Engineer Rashid Friday accused the district administration in Kishtiwar of being biased towards Muslims.
Rashid said that the deputy commissioner or head of the civil administration in the district was demoralizing Muslims in Kishtwar town and adjoining areas.
“The said deputy commissioner has a track record of offering his volunteer services in the state to curb genuine voices to please his bosses and is always biased and selective in his approach.”
The lawmaker from Langate constituency in north of Kashmir valley has expressed strong resentment over the fact that Muslims in the area were not allowed to offer Friday prayers.
An indefinite curfew is in place in Kishtwar for the eighth day today following violent clashes between Hindus and Muslims on Friday last. Three people died, scores were wounded besides damage of property in large scale incidents of arson.
Both the communities suffered.
Rashid said that the Deputy Commissioner should have “followed his conscience and the law rather trying to please politicians and playing in their hands.”
He said the atmosphere was “conducive” for Friday prayers.
He also accused the police of implicating falsely Muslim youth for communal violence.
“The police is doing everything to file fake cases against Muslim youth in order to appease few influential right wing forces in the area which is highly condemnable and deplorable,” he added.
