Kashmir’s NC not to pay for Congress’ mistakes: Kamal

RAJOURI, Sept 3: In bashing its coalition partners, the Congress Party, ruling National Conference (NC’s) firebrand leader and additional general secretary, Mustafa Kamal, is refusing to call it a day.

Continuing his spree of verbal attacks, Kamal has warned that his party will not sacrifice itself for, what he says, was the “unjust and biased attitude” of congress ministers towards NC workers and cadre.

“The National Conference cannot afford to lose its popularity because of a negative congress attitude,” a party statement quotes Kamaal as telling a meeting of his party workers in Rajouri district.

At the meeting, the statement reads, NC workers blamed congress ministers of a ‘negative attitude’ which they believe had biased the local administration to pay scant attention to them.

“Kamaal cautioned the congress that they may get away with this unjust attitude while they share power in the state, but will certainly be on the receiving end at the hustings,” the statement reads.

The statement by Kamal, who is also the uncle of chief minister Omar Abdullah and is seen by many as the ‘stern’ second face of NC for keeping a check on Congress, comes just a day after he said that the coalition government in the state was under threat due to the “policies and politics” played by their partners.

“They are harassing our workers and are ignoring them. If this continues we will have no hesitation in snapping our ties with the party”, Kamaal, who is on a two-day visit to the district, told media persons on Sunday.

The fresh statement mentions Kamal asking his cadre of closing ranks and re–doubling efforts to strengthen the party at all levels.

“The premier regional party in the state with a chequered history is fully qualified to serve the people and address all their concerns be it economic, developmental or political .This is why people look to it, time and again for mitigating their problems,” he said.
