SRINAGAR, July 6: The famed Mughal gardens – laid out by Mughal rulers in Kashmir – are set to be restored to its original glory with the state government planning to spend Rs 12 crore on the project.
The work will include restoration and repairs of a 500-year-old ‘Hamam’ or bath, constructed by the Mughal rulers, to give an aesthetic look to the Shalimar Bagh – one of the many Mughal gardens in the valley.
“The Government will restore the original glory of all the Mughal gardens situated in the Valley. The Department of Floriculture has already undertaken the restoration work of three Mughal gardens — Shalimar, Nishat and Cheshmashahi – at an estimated cost of Rs 12 crore,” minister of Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma said.
The Mughal Gardens are among the main attractions that Kashmir offers to its tourists from across the country and all over the world.
“These heritage assets will remain centers of attraction for generations to come and Government will take all necessary steps to preserve them,” Sharma said.
The Minister said the Floriculture Department in association with Culture and Tourism Departments and other experts will execute the beautification plan of these parks with main thrust on maintaining their original glory.
