JAMMU, May 29: Just when Anna Hazare would have thought all the politicians were against him, Kashmir’s senior politician and Patron of the main opposition People’s Democratic Party Mufti Mohammed Sayeed has come to his support.
“I believe Anna Hazare and other groups, who have run a campaign against corruption, should continue it. Corruption has destroyed our country, what can we do?” Sayeed told people at conference on the role of Non-Governmental Organisations in eradicating corruption.
The PDP leader was also emphatic about the formation of a Lokpal which had an independent investigating wing to probe corruption-related cases.
While the parliament is still undecided about the Lokpal bill, fearing an ‘all powerful’ ombudsman that it would create, the former Union Home minister of India was quite emphatic about it.
“What is the dispute? The Lokpal should be formed with consensus…Lokpal should be there. We believe that the Lokpal and Lokayuktas should not only be concerned about the chief minister and the prime minister, but it should also cover the officers on field,” he was quoted by a wire agency as saying.
