SRINAGAR, May 26: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to have a new police chief next week as the incumbent Kuldeep Khoda is retiring on May 31.
“As of now, I am hanging my boots May 31. There is nothing more to add on this count,” Director General khoda told reporters in the winter capital Jammu.
Khoda is by far the longest serving Director General of Police in the history of Jammu and Kashmir since the post was created exactly 30 years ago in May 1982.
He was appointed as the chief of state police in July 2007 when the armed militancy was on a decline. But he had to face three consecutive summers of widespread unrest in the valley when tens of thousands of civilians took the streets to protest against Indian rule.
Khoda is among the probable candidates to head the newly created Vigilance Commission in the state. But, “Time will tell what would happen,” he said.
