SRINAGAR, Aug 29: A group of people overnight attacked the office of Wullar Lake Conservation Project, vandalised the building and threatened its staff in north Kashmir, police say.
They say the miscreants barged into the office at Aadipora area in Sopore town, damaged many items and threatened the staff before fleeing from the spot.
“Police is investigating from all angles of the incident including extortion as well as intimidation and threatening to workers,” a police statement said.
Police has registered a case and assured the employees of complete security.
“Following the assurance by police, that due care will be taken with regard to safety and security of the workers, the work will resume on the project,” the statement added.
The Centre has sanctioned a Rs 356-crore project for conservation of Wullar, Asia’s largest fresh water lake.
