Concludes 48-hour hunger strike
SRINAGAR: Senior separatist leader Mohammad Yasin Malik has threatened to fast unto death if New Delhi continued what he called repressive behaviour against the Kashmiri people.
Malik, who heads the pro-Independence Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, was talking to reporters just after concluding a 48-hour hunger protest.
“Our motto is to raise our voice against the repressive measures of India and the reign of terror that has been unleashed by this state on the people of Jammu Kashmir,” Malik said.
The separatist leader has been protesting against the life imprisonment of several Kashmiri youth and also to seek the return of mortal remains of Afzal Guru and Maqbool Bhat.
“There are ten thousand people missing in custody and thousands of unmarked graves,” Malik said.
He warned to intensify his protest if the “rulers” kept on with their repressive attitude against the people of Jammu and Kashmir and if the world community “watched in silence”.
Malik broke his fast with a glass of juice and was offered the first sip by Irshika, daughter of Showkat Ahmad Khan who is serving life sentence.
