SRINAGAR, Aug 31: Jammu and Kashmir is all set to host the 58th Junior National School Games in this summer capital from next week, Minister for Youth Services and Sports, R S Chib, said here today.
As many as 600 players, officials and volunteers from 30 teams representing various states and Union Territories of the country are expected to participate in the event scheduled to commence from September 3, the minister told reporters.
He said the Department of Youth Services and Sports is organising the event under the aegis of National School Games Federation of India.
The Games will be inaugurated by Governor N N Vohra at Bakshi stadium and the closing ceremony will be held at the same venue on September 7, Chib said adding the matches will be played on league-cum-knockout basis.
Chib informed over 65 matches will be played at five different venues including Islamia College, Polo ground-A and Kashmir University grounds.
Referring to boarding and lodging, the minister said all the participating teams will be lodged at Youth hostel and Yatri Bhawan, while the officials and observers deputed for the tournament will be accommodated at circuit house here.
The department has constituted various committees to hold the championship in a befitting manner, he said.
Chib also mentioned that a control room has also been set-up in the directorate which is functioning round-the-clock from August 29.
