Matter taken up with Home Department: DGP
SRINAGAR: Thousands of policemen in Jammu and Kashmir have not been receiving ration allowance for the last six months.
Police officials say they are unaware of the reasons.
“We used to get allowance since decades but as the new government came into power in the year 2009 we don’t know what happened…For some months we received it …but it was stopped,” a local news agency, KNS, quotes an unnamed police officer as saying.
The monthly allowance, 600 rupees only, is funded by the central government towards the state. Paramilitary forces, CRPF and BSF get Rs.1800 for the same purpose.
The Director General of Police, Ashok Prasad said the issue has already been taken up with the authorities.
However, he said the allowances have already been paid to the armed wing of the state police.
“It is the Home Department which provides these allowances and the matter has already been taken up with the concerned department,” he added.
