Kashmir Minister served notice in 5000 crore rupees scam

JAMMU May 12: The State Accountability Commission on Friday issued notice to Congress minister Manohar Lal Sharma in connection with the multi-crore scam in Jammu and Kashmir Cooperatives Housing Corporation.

Chairperson of the state’s highest anti-graft body Justice Y P Nargotra and member Justice Hakim Imtiyaz Hussain issued notice to the respondents (Sharma, Commissioner of Cooperatives Abdul Hamid Wani and Registrar of Cooperatives J&K, Mohammad Abbas) for their appearance in person and through advocate and reply within three weeks.

A complaint was filed by Sunil Sharma and Farooq Ahmed Dar against Sharma, Wani and Abbas alleging that a probe revealed embezzlement worth Rs. 5000 crores has been committed by former MD Brij Mohan Sharma and present incumbent Bharat Bhushan Sharma.

The SAC bench said a case stands already registered in the matter with the Vigilance organisation regarding some of the allegations contained in the complaint.

It observed that prima facie it appears that gross irregularities have been committed by the officers of the corporation and the minister for cooperative department has failed to exercise and effective control over the functioning of the corporation.
