SRINAGAR: Lawyers in Kashmir valley say they will strike work to support a strike and protest call given by senior separatist leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
Mr Geelani has called for a march to the UN Military Observers office in Srinagar on Wednesday to submit a memorandum against killings by Indian security forces.
He has also called for a shutdown on Saturday.
General Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association, Mohammed Ashraf Bhat, said the Bar will show its support “In order to put an end to Human Rights Violations which are taking place day in and day out…and also to show our solidarity with the people.”
The JKHCBA has requested all lawyers to make Geelani’s call “successful”.
“All the lawyers are requested to abstain from appearing before the Hon’ble High Court and the courts subordinate to it on 18th and 21st of September 2013,” he said in a statement.
The Bar has also asked lawyers to protest after Friday prayers, as called for by Mr Geelani.
