SRINAGAR, Nov 20: A special anti-smoking squad on Tuesday imposed fines on 31 people, including several employees of Jammu and Kashmir Government for allegedly smoking in public places here.
“A joint anti-tobacco squad, comprising of representatives from Drug and Food Control Organisation, Health Department and police caught 31 people smoking in public places.
A fine of Rs 4,800 was recovered from them,” a spokesman of the Divisional Administration of Kashmir said.
He said those caught smoking in public places included an Accounts Officer, two Naib Tehsildars and a Junior Engineer.
Smoking in public places is prohibited under Section 4 of Cigarettes & Other Tobacco Products, Prohibition of Advertisement & Regulation of Trade & Commerce, Production, Supply & Distribution Act (COPTA) 2003.
