SRINAGAR: The cabinet in Jammu and Kashmir has condemned what it has called excessive use of force in Gool village of Ramban district on Thursday, a government spokesman has said.
The cabinet which comprises ministers from chief minister Omar Abdullah’s National Conference party and India’s governing Congress party met in Srinagar on Friday.
It extended condolences to the bereaved families and sympathies to those injured in the BSF firing.
The cabinet also decided to pay extraordinary exgratia of half a million rupees each to the next of kin of those killed. It also decided to provide a government job to one member each from the families of those killed.
It is perhaps the first time that the cabinet has recorded its condemnation of an act of the security forces.
The government is fearful of a repeat of the summer unrest which rocked the state, particularly the valley, in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
