Kashmir Assembly to Discuss Recent Revelations by VK Singh Tomorrow

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly (LA) will debate on recent revelations by former Chief of the Army (COA) that politicians, including minister, were being paid from special Army fund since 1947.

Immediately, after the House met today after a two-day holiday, members from the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) demanded a reply from the chair about date and time fixed for the debate on General Singhs revelations.

Speaker Mubarak Gul repeatedly asked the PDP to resume their seats and allow the Question-Hour to function normally as not even a single question had been discussed in the House since the autumn session began on September 30.

However, PDP members refused and demanded that a chair should announce the date for the debate.

Later, Mr Gul allowed leader of the opposition Mehbooba Mufti to speak briefly before the Question Hour could be started.

She wanted to draw the attention of the chair that General Singh in his revelation had said politicians in the state were being paid from Army’s secret fund since 1947.

She said they have also already moved a motion in the House for a special discussion in the House.

Mr Gul said the discussion on General Singh’s revelation will be held tomorrow.

The ruling National Conference (NC) has moved a privilege motion against General Singh and demanded that he should be brought into the House for questioning.

About 15 members of the NC, including some ministers have signed the motion.

Besides opposition PDP, the Communist Party of India (M) member Mohammad Yousuf Targami and Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) member Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen have also moved a motion against General Singh.
