SRINAGAR, July 31: Four Jordanians were arrested for stealing gold ornaments from a shop in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Tuesday.
The foreign nationals – Muna Ramadan Rashid Saleh, Ahmed Ramadan Rashid Saleh, Naimeh Ramadan Rashid Saleh and Khaled Ramadan Rashid Saleh – were arrested by the police in Kalibari area of Kathua district, police officials said.
They were involved in stealing ornaments from a jewellery shop at Kathua on Monday and a complaint was lodged by one Deepak Parkash in this connection with the police.
Parkash had alleged that three foreign nationals, one man and two women, visited his shop and requested him to show some gold ornaments for purchasing.
They selected one pendant and offered to pay the cost in their own currency, to which the complainant refused and the foreigners left with a promise to return with Indian rupees.
Soon after the foreign nationals left the shop, it was that a gold coin weighing around 6 grams was missing, Parkash said.
Police said they registered a case and intercepted a vehicle at Kalibari Kathua in which the accused were travelling. They were taken into custody.
During frisking, gold ornaments weighting about 80.380 grams amounting to Rs 2,40,000 were recovered from their possession, police said. The accused are in police custody.
