SRINAGAR, July 17: In a yet another exciting game of football, the host Jammu Kashmir eleven again beat one of India’s premier football teams, Mohammadan Sporting Club Kolkata in a goodwill match, officials said Tuesday.
The match, won by JK team by 1-0 goals, was played at Degree College grounds in North Kashmir’s Baramulla.
This was the second match played between the two teams, both won by the hosts.
Mohammadan Sporting Club arrived in kashmir on Friday to give boost to the sport in the valley. With violence declining, sports and economic activities are picking up in the region which has seen tens of thousands of deaths in past two decades.
Minister for Youth Services and Sports R S Chib was the chief guest on the occasion while as Minister of State for Roads and Buildings, Javid Ahmad Dar was guest of honour.
The minister expressed plans to invite other premier teams of the country like Mohan Bagan Club to Kashmir in the future.
“The crowd witnessed in the previous and today’s match shows that football is popular sport in the valley.One more Astro Turf playfield will be developed to provide added facilities to the players,” Chib said.
The minister said that the government is planning to develop a modern stadium with state-of-the-art facilities.
