JAMMU: A woman was allegedly raped by a government school teacher in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir, reports say.
The case is the sixth rape reported in more than two weeks in the state.
Daily Bhaskar reported that a teacher, Hartesh Chander raped the woman in Basantgarh area on Thursday while her husband was out of station for some work.
A case has been registered in this connection while the police have launched a hunt to nab the accused who has absconded.
Three days ago police arrested a 20-year-old youth in the Pahalgam area of Anantnag district after he allegedly raped a girl in Frislan village.
Police reports said the accused, Mushtaq Ahmad Hajam, allegedly sneaked into the house of the victim on the intervening night of December 31 and January 1 and raped the girl (20).
Earlier, on Jan 3, a girl from Shopian district alleged that she was abducted and raped by a 32-year-old man at his house. The incident, she told police, happened in November last, but her father reported it only now due to some reasons.
After the outrage over gangrape of a Delhi girl in December, state authorities said they have begun a review of laws related to violence against women.
They have not ruled out death penalty for rapists. Five fast tracks courts have also been set up to try rape cases at a faster pace.
