SRINAGAR: Renowned health administrator and convener of Jammu and Kashmir government’s task force on health reforms, Dr A K Nagpal has said more time was needed to judge the changes brought about by the task force.
He was reacting to reports about the failure of the task force to bring reforms in the healthcare system in the state.
Dr Nagpal was in Srinagar to attend the important meeting of the Task Force called by the Chief Minister.
“To reform the health sector and achieve universal and equitable access to healthcare, we have been on the path of success. We have set some major targets to be achieved by the end of January following which the outcome of the reforms initiative will become visible,” he said.
Responding to questions about lack of co-ordination among various departments in the implementation of the Task Force, he said it has taken some time to sensitise the administrative hierarchy.
“However there is total synergy between departments and we look forward to setting standards that other States will emulate,” he added.
Dr Nagpal vowed that he is totally committed to this major initiative and have full support from all the concerned in the government and the administration.
Pertinently, Dr Nagpal is the founder director of the SKIMS Soura and under his command the institution set standards of quality tertiary care in the State, particularly in the Valley.
At present, he heads various health and medical education institutions in the country.
The Task Force on health Reforms in Jammu and Kashmir was set up by the government in May 2009 with an aim to assess the problems related to health and medical education sectors.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is Chairman of the Task Force with health and medical educations minister, Chief Secretary, Directors of health (Jammu and Srinagar) and various administrative secretaries as its members.
The meeting on Monday was called after reports that some recommendations of the Task Force had not been implemented.
