JAMMU: Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday sealed the state’s entry point at Lakhanpur reportedly to prevent entry of Hindu rioters from outside to enter Jammu, the winter capital.
A local news agency, CNS, quotes a senior police official saying that the Lakhanpur entry point was sealed after the government had received inputs about the entry of rioters.
It has quoted a Muslim cleric in Jammu alleging that hundreds of rioters had already managed to sneak into Jammu.
The cleric said that members of the Muslim community had already informed the authorities about it and demanded an immediate crack down on them.
“We have proofs that at least five hundred rioters are staying with the BJP, RSS and VHP leaders and it is they who are attacking our Masjids here. They must be identified and thrown out from the Jammu City,” one of the Jammu Muslims said.
The police officer, who spoke to CNS, however denied it.
“We have learnt lessons from 2008 agitation and no one would be allowed to repeat that.”
