JAMMU: National Conference Provincial President Devender Singh Rana today apprised the visiting Canadian team about turnaround in an overall situation in Jammu and Kashmir and said the state is heading towards peace, political stability and development with a renewed vigour and determination.
‘’Given support of the people and yearning for peace, the government has embarked upon a developmental initiative in all three regions of the State with focus on health, education, drinking water and power sectors, Mr Rana said while interacting with Head of the Political and Economic Programme, Johanne, Senior Analyst in the Privy Council Office at Ottawa, Jawad Qureshi and Senior Analyst in the Political and Economic Programme of the High Commission of Canada, Madhu Dass.
Mr Rana dwelt upon measures taken for the faster development of the state, combating unemployment by taking innovative measures, implementing various welfare programmes, ensuring transparency and accountability in the administration by introducing Right to Information and Public Services Guarantee Acts etcetera.
Giving an overview of the political situation, the Provincial President said that National Conference is a deep rooted public movement, dating back to quit Kashmir era when the people waged a decisive war for restoration of democracy, which reflects the urges and aspiration of the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
On prevailing situation in Kashmir, Mr Rana stressed the crucial need of engaging Pakistan in productive dialogue, saying the beneficiaries of the good neighbourly relations between New Delhi and Islamabad will be the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
He also emphasised the significance of Confidence Building Measures like initiation of trade, opening of more routes between two parts of Jammu and Kashmir, people to people exchange and said these were some of the initiatives that can bring the two nations closer.
