SHIMLA: Four women and two children were among 10 persons killed when their jeep skidded off the road and fell into a rivulet in the remote Lahaul-Spiti district.
The victims, hailing from Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir, were returning from a pilgrimage when the accident occurred near Rohli Nala in Udaipur subdivision late last evening, Keylong Deputy Commissioner Bir Singh Thakur said.
Locals alerted the administration this morning, he said.
The victims were on their way home after paying obeisance at the Lord Shiva temple in Trilokinath, 53 km from Keylong.
One injured has been admitted to a hospital in Keylong, some 325 km from the HP capital, Shimla.
Most of the victims died on the spot.
The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained, Mr Thakur added.
The administration had a tough time in extricating the victims from the wreckage of the vehicle.
Governor Ms Urmila Singh and Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh have condoled the deaths.
