SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir has become the third state in India to have an all-women post office exclusively managed by female officials.
Until now only Mumbai city in Maharashtra had one while Delhi had two such post offices.
While inaugurating the post office in Jammu city of the state, postmaster general John Samuels said “Department of Posts
acknowledges the role of women in society”.
For ensuring security of female officials, he said, CCTV Cameras have been installed.
Samuels said another such post office will soon be opened in Srinagar, the summer capital and main city of Kashmir valley.
Describing the woman empowerment as pre-requisite for healthy society and nation, Samuel said steps were being taken up by the postal department for increasing the confidence level of female Postal Officials.
“The All Women Post Office in Jammu offers traditional and modern services like booking of registered and speed post articles, e-money order, Western Union Money Transfer, e-payment besides the post office savings and bank transactions,” Samuels said.
