SRINAGAR: The revenue record keepers in Jammu and Kashmir have called off their 44-day old strike after getting assurance from the state government that their pay anomalies would be resolved in a cabinet meeting scheduled tomorrow.
“We have called off the strike for three days provided the state cabinet which is scheduled to meet tomorrow will approve our demand for removal of pay anomaly,” president of Patwar Association, Mohammad Afaq Shopiani told a local news agency KNS.
The striking Patwaris held a protest demonstration outside the Divisional Commissioner’s office earlier in the day to press for their demand.
They went on an indefinite strike last month demanding removal of pay anomalies, promotion of Girdawars(record keepers of cultivation of land) to Naib Tehsildars, ban on direct recruitment of Naib Tehsildars and renovation of Patwarkhanas.
Meanwhile, Minster for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Ajaz Ahmad Khan told the news agency that the government has accepted the demands of Patwaris.
The decision is to be formally taken at the cabinet meet tommorow.
