SRINAGAR: Authorities in central Kashmir’s Budgam district have ordered an inquiry into the death of a woman and her unborn baby at a local hospital.
Mehmooda, wife of Tasaduq Hussain, was rushed to the sub-district hospital, Chatergam after she developed labour pains, but the doctors took no action, a local news agency KNS reports quoting eyewitnesses.
Her condition worsened and she was referred to the Lalded hospital in Srinagar, where she was declared brought dead.
The yet to be born infant also died due to alleged negligence of the doctors, the agency reports.
The incident led to protests by local residents prompting the district administration to order an inquiry.
Chief Medical Officer, Dr Gurmeer Singh said the committe will submit its report in five days.
He further said the baby had died due to cardiac arrest in the mother’s womb.
