SRINAGAR, Sept 4: Pakistani rangers fired at an Indian forward post across Kashmir’s Line of Control (LoC), the 16th ceasefire violation by Islamabad in a month, Army said on Tuesday.
The fresh border shooting, small arms fire, took place late on Monday in Krishnagati sub-sector near the LoC in Poonch district, nearly 200 kms south of capital Srinagar.
“However, there was no loss of life or damage to property in the firing from across the border,” a senior Army officer was quoted as saying by PTI adding, “We did not retaliate”.
There was no immediate comment from Pakistan.
Armies of India and Pakistan, two south-Asian nuclear rivals, have agreed to a ceasefire across the Kashmir frontier in 2003 and have largely respected it. However brief exchanges of fire occur almost every week.
The two countries have of late witnessed amicable relations on trade and other fronts like never before, Pakistani high commissioner to India, Salman Bashir told a news channel recently.
But Indian authorities have blamed its long-time foe of violating the ceasefire 16 times in last one month along the International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.
Last time Pakistan fired at Indian posts on Aug 21 which the authorities say was without any provocation prompting New Delhi to lodge a complaint with Islamabad.
