SRINAGAR: An IAS (Indian Administrative Service) officer from Madhya Pradesh and his wife are among four people killed after a vehicle fell into a deep gorge in the mountainous region of Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir, police say.
A senior police officer of Madhya Pradesh (MP) police and his wife have also been critically injured in the mishap.
Police say the families were travelling in their Innova taxi when it skidded off the road and fell into a 300-ft gorge at Khardungla, 30 kms from Leh town.
The deceased have been identified as T Dharma Rao, his wife Vidya Rao, their help Kumat Singh and a local driver, Dorje.
The Inspector General (Vigilance) of MP police, Ashok Avasthi and his wife, Manjriya Avasthi were injured and have been shifted to hospital for help.
The incident happened between 8 to 9 am this morning.
Witnesses say there had been light rainfall in the morning and that the taxi failed to navigate through the foggy patch of the road.
