SRINAGAR, June 21: Kashmir got its first “high Security” vehicle number plate with one fixed on the official vehicle of the Transport commissioner of the state.
Minister of Transport, Qamar Ali Akhoon formally inaugurated High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) System at a function in Bemina, Srinagar.
“HSRP will be fixed on about 13 lakh registered commercial and non commercial vehicles in the state which will pave way for checking unauthorised vehicle menace, fancy number plates and will prove fruitful for curbing the theft of vehicles to a large extent,” Akhoon said.
A Supreme Court order recently has made HSRP mandatory for all vehicles, private and commercial, in the state.
The government has fixed the rate of each plate for both light and heavy Vehicles at Rs 401.
“These plates will help in curtailing theft and misuse of vehicles besides bringing efficiency in traffic system,” Transport Commissioner Mehraj Ahmed Kakroo said.
