JAMMU: Security in th winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir has been stepped up ahead of Diwali and shifting of Darbar Move offices from Srinagar.
Tight security arrangements have been made in the ‘City of Temples’ as the festival of lights Diwali will be celebrated on November 3 and the Civil Secretariat Offices will re-open here on November 4.
Additional cops of State Police have been deployed.
“As the Darbar Move offices will re-open here on November 4, a day after Diwali festival, security cover has been strengthened around the city,” a senior police official said.
He said barricades will be raised on Sunday as Darbar reopens on Monday morning and the road adjacent to the Civil Secretariat will be closed for regular traffic.
“Armed men have been deployed outside the Civil Secretariat Complex while close watch is also being maintained on suspicious elements through CCTVs,” he added.
The police officer said for smooth Diwali celebrations, no shopkeeper has been allowed to sell fire crackers in open as special stalls have been established for the purpose at Parade Ground.
The Traffic Department has also been directed to regulate traffic especially on November 3 in view of heavy rush in the markets due to Diwali and on November 4 to streamline the movement of VIPs and VVIPs for traditional opening of Darbar Move with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah taking the traditional guard of honour.
