SRINAGAR: The Jammu and High Court on Wednesday allowed hotels in tourist resorts of Gulmarag and Pahalgam with Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) installed to operate for a period of one month.
The hotels can operate from October 28, the Court said.
These were sealed after directions from the High Court, in a drive to protect environmental concerns.
The Pollution Control Board (PCB) in its report submitted before the Court had said that five hotels in category A at Gulmarg have sought permission to set up STPs. The PCB said two of the hotels already had the plants installed.
The Court has, however, allowed these hotels to operate for a period of one month during which it said the PCB will ascertain efficiency of such STPs.
The court directed that any STP/Soakage pit, which does not conform to the rules and norms, be stopped and such hotels be sealed again.
